This May collector card company Topps will celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back with the release of The Empire Strikes Back 3-D trading cards.

The Empire Strikes Back 3-D set is designed in the Wide Vision format. The base set includes 48 cards featuring never-before-seen photos. Each box contains 24 packs, each pack contains 3 cards, and each box includes a guaranteed 1 of 1 original hand-drawn sketch card from one of today’s top Star Wars artists.

Look for Topps Certified autographs from The Empire Strikes Back cast as well.

You can see some of the sketch cards I did on my site or at the Scoundrel Art boards.

May the force be with you all!

Former Memphian John Jackson Miller is ending his 50 issue writing run on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic this coming Wednesday. In fact, the whole series is ending with issue #50.

This news has some JJM and KOTOR fans saddened. Not to worry, John will return to the Star Wars universe later this year with a new comic series Star Wars: Knight Errant. If that’s not good enough for you, a novel of the same name will be released next year! You can read more about it from JJM here.

In addition to his comic duties for Dark Horse, he is also writing a series of e-books in conjunction with the Fate of the Jedi novel series by Del Rey.  The 3rd e-book, Lost Tribe of the Sith: Paragon, is now available for download from StarWars.com, Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com (Kindle version).  You can download previous installments here and here.

And if he wasn’t busy enough, John also writes a webcomic, Sword and Sarcasm that you can check out here.

John will be attending the Midsouthcon this March 12th-14th. He was recently on a couple of podcasts- The Legion of Dudes and Fictional Frontiers.

Congrats, JJM!

Play it again, Jim!

linjimsm

My friend and fellow cartoonist Jim Palmer stars in “The Seafarer” at The Circuit Playhouse here in Memphis.

The Seafarer is a chilling new play about the sea, Ireland, and the power of myth. It’s Christmas Eve, and Sharky has returned to Dublin to look after his irascible, aging brother who’s recently gone blind. Old drinking buddies Ivan and Nicky are holed up at the house too, hoping to play some cards. But with the arrival of a stranger from the distant past, the stakes are raised ever higher. Sharky may be playing for his very soul. “…a midnight-black comedy that wrenches laughter out of the despair of frustrated men whose lives have come to naught.” – Wall Street Journal.

Click here for more information on this play.
